Nidal Hasan, the former Army psychiatrist convicted in the 2009 Fort Hood massacre, will be executed by firing squad in public at the Texas base where he killed 13 people, Secretary of War Pete Hegseth said Thursday.
“We’re gonna make sure that people are able to watch it, that it’s public, because people need to understand that there’s serious consequences for these types of things,” Hegseth told Real America’s Voice when asked about Hasan’s fate. The former Army major has been on military death row since 2013.
Hegseth said he believes Hasan’s execution should take place at Fort Hood, the site of the mass shooting.
“Army major betrays his country, radical Islamist kills a bunch of Americans at Fort Hood. Of course we’re doing it at Fort Hood,” Hegseth said.

“We’re going to do it on a Thursday. We’re going to do it at one o’clock, which is when he did it. And it’s going to be soldiers with rifles executing the firing squad.”
Hasan opened fire on fellow service members at Fort Hood on Nov. 5, 2009, killing 13 people and injuring 32 others.
In 2013, he was convicted on 13 counts of premeditated murder and 32 counts of attempted premeditated murder and sentenced to death.
The attack ranks among the deadliest mass shootings ever carried out at a U.S. military installation.
