Humphrey Bogart and Lauren Bacall’s Daughter Makes Rare Appearance

She was raised during Hollywood’s Golden Age as the daughter of screen icons Lauren Bacall and Humphrey Bogart.

Yet although Leslie Bogart was born into a world of movie premieres, celebrity parties and constant attention, the couple’s only daughter ultimately chose a far more private life away from show business.

The rarely seen daughter of The Big Sleep stars Humphrey Bogart and Lauren Bacall has now been photographed in public for the first time in years—and bears a striking resemblance to her late mother, Our News Outlet can reveal.

Silver-haired Leslie kept a low profile during the outing as she enjoyed the sunshine. She has been married to yoga instructor Erich Schiffmann for the past three decades.

The quiet glimpse of Leslie’s everyday life is a sharp contrast to her childhood, when she traveled around the world with her parents—famously known as “Bogie and Bacall”—visiting film sets, photo shoots and other Hollywood events.

Leslie was named after actor Leslie Howard, a close friend of her father. She is the younger of the two children of the Dark Passage stars.

As children, Leslie and her brother, Stephen Bogart, were frequently photographed by paparazzi as they followed their famous parents from one event to the next.

Bacall and Bogart met while filming their 1944 movie To Have and Have Not. Their romance soon made them one of the most celebrated couples in Hollywood.

Despite their 25-year age difference, Bogie and Bacall appeared together on screen, hosted all-night parties at home and socialized with stars including Frank Sinatra. They also helped form a circle of entertainers known as the Holmby Hills Rat Pack.

With so much attention focused on the couple, public fascination naturally extended to their young family.

The paparazzi were not the only ones offering a glimpse into their family life. In 1954, the couple invited CBS cameras into their home for a tour.

After showing journalist Edward R. Murrow around their home, Bacall brought Stephen and Leslie into view of the cameras.

Interest in Bacall and Bogart’s children intensified after their father died of cancer in 1957. Leslie was five years old at the time, while her brother was eight.

Leslie has remained largely private about her childhood and her famous parents, while her brother has occasionally spoken about them in interviews over the years.

‘It was his death, rather than his life, that was the problem for me,’ Stephen told the New York Times in 1995 of his father, adding that the constant presence of cameras trailing them was overwhelming. 

‘When he died, it brought the attention on us,’ he added. ‘I hated it. I didn’t want my picture taken anymore.’

Still, in the years after their father’s passing, Leslie routinely accompanied her mom to various sets and was front and center at red carpet events as a baby-faced teen.

But as an adult, Leslie’s appearances grew less frequent. 

Photos show her attending the Academy Awards back in 1997 and a ceremony that same year where a commemorative postage stamp honoring her late father was unveiled.  

One of Leslie’s last known public appearances alongside her mom and brother was at the Academy of Motion Picture Arts and Sciences Governors Awards Gala back in 2009. 

Sightings have been slim and dried up entirely following her mother’s death in 2014. 

Leslie, who tied the knot with her yogi husband back in 1990, has no children. Her brother, meanwhile, has been married three times and has three kids: a son from his first marriage and a daughter and son from his second. 

They have a half-brother, actor Sam Robards, from their mother’s second marriage to All the President’s Men actor Jason Robards. The pair wed in 1961 but divorced eight years later.   

When Bacall died in 2014, most of her $26.6 million estate was split between her three children.

In her will, Bacall requested specifically that her kids ‘respect my wish to keep private certain personal letters, writings, diaries and other papers or memorabilia.’
