WASHINGTON — U.S. Ambassador to Greece Kimberly Guilfoyle, facing mounting scrutiny, announced her resignation after the White House asked her to leave amid revelations that she had urged donors to help cover her personal expenses.
Guilfoyle, a former fiancée of Donald Trump Jr. and the former wife of California Gov. Gavin Newsom, came under intense pressure following a Wall Street Journal report. The investigation detailed text messages in which she allegedly sought $100,000 from a donor to pay down an American Express bill ahead of her ambassadorial confirmation.
“My gratitude and respect for President Trump and Secretary Rubio remain unwavering,” Guilfoyle wrote in a post on X. “I am proud of what we accomplished together, and I will always be a loyal supporter of President Trump and his mission to Make America Great Again.”
“While my time as Ambassador may be coming to an end, my commitment to President Trump, the America First movement, and the country I love will never end,” she added.
White House press secretary Katie Zacharia disclosed just hours earlier that Guilfoyle had been asked to resign.

The controversy reportedly frustrated Secretary of State Marco Rubio as questions surrounding Guilfoyle’s conduct intensified.
Although Guilfoyle rejected allegations that she was involved in a pay-to-play arrangement, she said she would still step down.
“I also want to address the recent allegations against me,” wrote Guilfoyle, a former Fox News on-air personality.
“These allegations are false, and I intend to vigorously defend my name, my reputation, and my integrity. I have dedicated my professional life to fighting for justice, standing up for what is right, and defending the values that make America exceptional. I will not allow false accusations to define my decades of public service.”
