A New York man is accused of slashing a female coworker’s throat while she was driving him home, police said.
Saratoga Springs police responded Friday to reports that a vehicle had crashed into Augie’s To-Go, an Italian restaurant. Officers found the driver suffering from a “serious laceration” to her neck, an injury that appeared unrelated to the crash.
The passenger, identified as 36-year-old David Cruz Torres of Michoacán, Mexico, allegedly attempted to flee before police detained him nearby.
Detectives later determined that Cruz Torres and the injured woman were coworkers in Saratoga Springs.
Police said Cruz Torres asked the woman for a ride home after their shift ended.

While she was driving, Cruz Torres allegedly pulled out a knife and attacked her, cutting her throat, according to investigators.
The woman jumped from the moving vehicle and managed to call out for help.
She suffered life-threatening injuries and was airlifted to a local hospital, police said.
Cruz Torres faces charges of second-degree attempted murder and fourth-degree criminal possession of a weapon.
