A California man allegedly killed his wife and burned her remains, then told investigators that U.S. Immigration and Customs Enforcement agents had taken her while she stepped outside to collect the mail.
Gurinder Gill, 28, is charged with murder in the death of his 30-year-old wife, Jasmine Gill.
The Sacramento County Sheriff’s Office said Jasmine Gill was last seen near her Sacramento home, around Headstock Street and Allegretto Way, on Sept. 30. Her cousin reported her missing four days later, on Oct. 4.
Gill allegedly claimed that ICE agents seized his wife as she walked outside in white polka-dot pajamas to retrieve the mail. However, ICE officials told detectives that no agency operations had taken place in the area at the time she reportedly disappeared.
Investigators said they found “several inconsistencies” in Gill’s account. They also learned that the couple was involved in an ongoing divorce and child-custody dispute.

Deputies publicized Jasmine Gill’s disappearance on social media on Oct. 9. The post was later updated with a warning that new information indicated she might be “at-risk.”
By then, authorities say, Jasmine Gill was already dead.
On Oct. 1, officials in El Dorado County discovered a burned human body. The remains were later identified as Jasmine Gill’s. Authorities have not disclosed how she died or where in El Dorado County the body was found.
Detectives also carried out two search warrants at residences “associated” with Gill. Investigators have not said what, if anything, they recovered during those searches.
Gill was arrested Wednesday after being charged with his wife’s murder. He remains in the Sacramento County Jail without bond, and no date has been listed for his next court appearance.
