The autopsy of Brooke Hanlon, a 35-year-old mother found fatally stabbed inside her home in an affluent New Jersey community, determined that she died from “sharp force injuries” and classified her death as a homicide.
Investigators say Hanlon was killed at her residence on Pottersville Road in Chester Township, New Jersey. She is survived by her 1-year-old daughter. Her husband, Conor Hanlon, has publicly denied having any role in her death.
The medical examiner’s findings identify “sharp force injuries” as Hanlon’s cause of death and homicide as the manner of death. The conclusions mirror information previously issued by the Morris County Prosecutor’s Office in June.
Morris County Medical Examiner Dr. Di Wang performed the examination on June 7, one day after Hanlon was discovered dead.

The investigation remains active, but the Morris County Prosecutor’s Office has not announced any arrests or identified a person of interest.
Payne, who met Hanlon in graduate school and once shared a Boston apartment with her, previously told News Outlet that the lack of public updates had been “confusing, heartbreaking and incredibly frustrating.”

According to a 911 call obtained by News Outlet, Hanlon’s husband was the first person to find her unresponsive. During the urgent conversation, he told the dispatcher there was “a laceration” on his wife as the operator directed him through CPR instructions.

Neighbors on Pottersville Road told News Outlet that, months after the killing, Conor Hanlon has repeatedly returned to the Chester property and spent nights there. Before that, he had divided his time between New Jersey and the Boston area, where his family lives.
Authorities have not said whether detectives found or removed a potential murder weapon from the home.
