An e-bike rider was fighting for his life Wednesday after being hit by a driver who fled the scene on a busy Brooklyn street the night before, police said.
The 33-year-old cyclist was traveling south in the right lane of Nostrand Avenue near Atlantic Avenue in Crown Heights, a heavily trafficked commercial area, at about 7:30 p.m. Tuesday when he was struck by the driver of a white 2026 Hyundai Elantra, according to authorities.
Police said the Hyundai had been traveling in the center lane before its driver began moving into the right lane, where the collision occurred.
The impact threw the cyclist from his e-bike onto the pavement, leaving him with severe head trauma, cops said.
He was taken to Kings County Hospital Center and remained in critical condition Wednesday, police said.
The Hyundai driver left the scene and headed south on Nostrand Avenue. Police were still searching for the hit-and-run suspect.

The Brooklyn crash occurred just weeks after an e-bike rider was killed by a pickup truck driver in the Bronx, according to police and sources.
The 50-year-old cyclist was riding west on East 145th Street in Mott Haven at about 8:25 a.m. Oct. 7 when a truck traveling south on Brook Avenue struck him, authorities and law enforcement sources said.
The pickup truck driver, a 55-year-old man, remained at the scene and was not charged, police said.
Last month, a delivery worker was also killed when a dump truck struck her e-bike and then drove away near Herald Square, police and an advocacy group said.
The truck hit the 50-year-old cyclist on the morning of Sept. 28 as both she and the driver traveled west on West 34th Street toward Seventh Avenue, according to police.
The woman, who was making a delivery on a JOCO rental e-bike, was pronounced dead at the scene.
