Ellie Dix has opened up for the first time about the heartbreaking miscarriage she kept private as she and her fiancé, Jono McCullough, prepare to welcome their first child.
The Married At First Sight couple are expecting their first baby together, with their child due on April 4, 2027.
Their joyful pregnancy announcement, shared on October 19, followed an emotionally difficult year in which they pursued fertility treatment before enduring a devastating miscarriage.
Ellie met Jono during the 11th season of MAFS three years ago. Speaking to New Idea, she revealed that tests showed she had a low egg count and that the couple needed assistance from fertility specialists to conceive.
The pregnancy ended when Ellie was between eight and 10 weeks along, leaving the couple to cope with a loss they had barely begun to process.
“That’s when we realised, ‘Oh my God, we really do want children.’ It was just devastating,” she recalled.

Ellie, who met Jono on the 11th season of MAFS three years ago, revealed the loss in an interview with New Idea, explaining that she discovered she had a low egg count and needed help from fertility specialists to conceive.
Ellie described the experience as an “extremely lonely time”, telling the publication that she initially kept the miscarriage from friends and family before eventually opening up about what had happened.
“I remember feeling very alone at the time. People just think things come so easily to them, but it’s been a struggle.”
She said she chose not to share the miscarriage publicly because she feared online trolling and was concerned that the disclosure could be triggering for others.
Now, Ellie is using her public platform to highlight the realities of miscarriage and infertility by speaking honestly about her own journey.
After becoming pregnant again, she admitted that the couple faced considerable anxiety throughout the first trimester.
“There’s always an element of nervousness going into each scan, and with every little symptom you think, ‘Oh my God, is it going to happen to us again?’”
“But we’re just so grateful that this one has stuck around,” she said.
The couple have decided not to reveal their baby’s sex. Ellie also said they have already selected a more “traditional” name for their unborn child.

The reality television stars announced their pregnancy in a heartwarming Instagram post on Monday, pairing the news with audio from their final MAFS episode that now holds a deeply personal significance.
The accompanying footage shows Jono and Ellie strolling along a beach, with the couple taking turns cradling her baby bump and displaying sonogram images.
In the audio, late relationship expert Mel Schilling asks Ellie what she imagines for her future with Jono.
‘The white picket fence,’ Ellie replied.
‘Baby? Is that what you see?’ Mel then asked.
‘I want to have a family and just the average Australian dream,’ Ellie responded.
Ellie’s dream is now becoming a reality, with the loved-up couple confirming they are expecting their first baby together. The child is due to arrive in April 2027.
‘Baby McCullough coming April 2027,’ the pair captioned their post.
