One person was killed and six others injured after a shooting at a Spirit Halloween store in the Bay Area on Halloween Eve.
Gunfire erupted inside the seasonal store at Solano Town Center mall in Fairfield, California, at about 8:30 p.m. Friday, Fairfield Police Chief Dan Marshall said at a news conference.
One victim was pronounced dead at the scene. Six others were taken to a hospital, including three people who remained in critical condition.
Authorities did not release a description of the suspected shooter or say whether more than one person may have been involved.
Police have not disclosed a possible motive.
“This is still a very active crime scene. Detectives are speaking with witnesses and diligently working to identify the suspect responsible for this horrific shooting,” police said in a statement.
The Spirit Halloween store was open and crowded with shoppers when the shooting began, prompting customers to run from the building.

“Well, she just told me she heard some shots and the people running, yelling and crying already,” one witness told KCRA, describing what his wife experienced.

The man said his wife heard approximately seven gunshots before people in the store rushed to safety.
The temporary Halloween pop-up occupied the former Best Buy location at the mall, which has about 130 stores.
The Fairfield shooting came just hours after a man was fatally shot inside a store in Michigan.
The unidentified 21-year-old victim was found with multiple gunshot wounds at the store in Madison Heights shortly after 2 p.m., according to the Madison Heights Police Department.
Another 21-year-old, who is suspected in the killing, was assaulted by bystanders and taken to a hospital while in police custody.
