Savannah Guthrie's Plea for Missing Mom After Old Drawing
Savannah Guthrie’s Plea for Missing Mom After Old Drawing

“TODAY” co-host Savannah Guthrie renewed her public appeal for information about her mother, Nancy Guthrie, on Sunday, nine months after the 84-year-old disappeared from her Tucson, Arizona, home in what authorities believe was an abduction.

Guthrie posted an old drawing by her daughter, Vale. It depicts a blue umbrella beneath falling rain and includes the words, “I know it might not seem like it, but I really need my mommy.”

“I found this old drawing from my daughter today,” Guthrie wrote on Instagram. “It says so much about how I feel.”

She added that although life may look “normal” as the family tries to carry on—particularly for the younger children—“it’s not and it never will be.”

“For Annie and Tommy, for Cam and Kristine, for Mike and me, and for all of Mom’s beloved grandchildren, we ache for her and cry out for answers. We cannot move forward,” Guthrie wrote.

“We need someone to help us and tell us what you know. Our mom was a light in this world. We want to honor her and give her the dignity she deserves. The reward remains available. Please—we are begging you—help us.”

Guthrie expressed gratitude to those who have stood by her family and asked supporters to “join us in praying without ceasing.”

Nancy Guthrie was reported missing on Feb. 1 after she was last seen at her Catalina Foothills-area home near Tucson shortly before 10 p.m. on Jan. 31.

Investigators believe she was taken against her will.

Doorbell camera footage from the home captured a masked, armed person apparently interfering with the device.

The FBI and Pima County Sheriff’s Department have not named a suspect, and no arrests have been announced.

While returning to her duties on “TODAY,” Guthrie has continued pressing for answers in her mother’s disappearance.

During a June appearance on “TODAY with Jenna & Sheinelle,” she pushed back against any suggestion that she had put the case out of her mind.

“I know people may wonder, ‘What’s going on? How can she do that job? Is she not thinking about it? Did she forget?’ No. Never,” Guthrie said.

“It is always with me. I cry every morning on the way to work, and I cry every morning on the way home,” she said.

Six months after her mother vanished, Guthrie and her siblings released another statement in August seeking information.

“Every day, we wake up and try to be strong and continue on because that is what our joyful, resilient Mom taught us to do. But make no mistake—our hearts are in ruins,” Guthrie wrote. “Cam and Kristine, Annie and Tommy, Mike and me—we spend every waking moment thinking of her, missing her and searching for her.”

The Pima County Sheriff’s Department said Friday that the Nancy Guthrie Task Force continues working with laboratories to advance DNA testing in the case.

“Earlier this month, investigators traveled to Florida to meet with lab scientists and determine what additional steps could advance the investigation,” the department said on X. “Several ideas were discussed, and we continue working with all our partners to solve this case.”

The department again urged the public to remember that even a seemingly minor detail could prove important.

Pima County Sheriff Chris Nanos previously said Guthrie “did not leave on her own.”

Authorities released the contents of two ransom notes in July. The first, sent Feb. 2, claimed Nancy Guthrie was safe and demanded $4 million in bitcoin for her return.

A second note, sent four days later, stated that she had died soon after being kidnapped.

Investigators said the messages included distinctive writing patterns and asked anyone who recognized the style to contact law enforcement.

A possible additional ransom text reported in September was later determined by investigators to lack credibility.
