Gainesville Felon Pleads Guilty to Federal Gun and Ammunition Charge

Press release from the U.S. Attorney’s Office for the Northern District of Florida

GAINESVILLE, Fla. – Kensha Eugene Williams, 26, has pleaded guilty in federal court to possessing a firearm and ammunition as a convicted felon, U.S. Attorney for the Northern District of Florida John P. Heekin announced.

“Our state and federal law enforcement officers work tirelessly to protect our communities from dangerous and violent felons, such as this defendant,” U.S. Attorney Heekin said. “I am proud to support their efforts through successful prosecutions like this one.”

According to court records, law enforcement officers observed Williams in possession of suspected drugs on June 28, 2026. After he was detained and searched, an officer found a firearm and ammunition in his pocket. Williams has prior convictions for aggravated assault with a firearm and carrying a concealed firearm, making it illegal for him to possess a firearm or ammunition.

Sentencing is scheduled for February 16, 2027, at 2:30 p.m. before Chief U.S. District Judge Allen Winsor in Gainesville. Williams faces a maximum sentence of 15 years in federal prison.

The Bureau of Alcohol, Tobacco, Firearms and Explosives and the Gainesville Police Department jointly investigated the case. Assistant U.S. Attorney Tyler Fleming is prosecuting the matter.

Project Safe Neighborhoods (PSN) is the U.S. Department of Justice’s nationwide initiative for bringing together federal, state, local and tribal law enforcement agencies, prosecutors and other public safety partners to combat violent crime and improve community safety. Led by U.S. Attorneys’ offices across the 94 federal districts, PSN programs are tailored to address the specific violent crime and public safety challenges facing individual communities. As a central component of Operation Take Back America, PSN supports the Department of Justice’s broader commitment to keeping the country safe. The initiative focuses on three core principles: a swift federal response to violent crime and criminal offenders; strong, coordinated partnerships among law enforcement agencies at every level; and accountability and deterrence through the prosecution of serious, readily provable offenses and other effective strategies. These efforts complement and reinforce President Trump’s Homeland Security Task Forces, helping provide a comprehensive federal response to the most urgent public safety concerns facing communities.
