Beau Lamarre-Condon sobbed to detectives after handing himself in

The court heard on Tuesday that Jesse Baird (pictured) was due to begin a new role as an executive producer on a shark documentary on the day he allegedly died.

Crown prosecutor read the court a statement from television production company owner Lana Thrupp.

Ms Thrupp said she had advertised a producer position in early February 2024, after which Baird submitted an application.

Following a phone interview, she said she was “very impressed” by his enthusiasm for the opportunity.

“I thought he was amazing, he seemed really keen and like a lovely person,” she said.

Baird was offered the position on February 13 and promptly returned his employment paperwork to Ms Thrupp.

He was scheduled to work from home on call sheets and location scouting from Monday, February 19 — the day prosecutors allege he was murdered.

Ms Thrupp became worried when his phone calls went directly to voicemail. She said Baird had appeared excited about the job and had previously replied to emails quickly.

Baird had named his mother as his emergency contact on the employment documents.

Ms Thrupp intended to contact her, but received a message from Baird’s phone at 10.57pm on February 20 — the day after his death.

The message said: “Hey Lana sorry to do this to you, but after a lot of thought, I think it would be best if I resign immediately.

“I’m sorry to do this to you but I need to focus on myself.”

Ms Thrupp asked for correspondence relating to the television project to be deleted and no longer planned to call Baird’s mother.

Days before he allegedly killed two people, Beau Lamarre-Condon (pictured below) told a new boyfriend over acai bowls in Bondi that he enjoyed a “high-end life” and counted “A-list celebrities” among his friends.

The court heard Lamarre-Condon met a South African man through the dating app Hinge in January 2024, with the pair going on their first date on February 3.

Crown prosecutors read the man’s statement to the court before Tuesday’s lunch break.

He said the pair had coffee and acai bowls in Bondi, where Lamarre-Condon claimed he had seen singer Pink at the upscale restaurant Bills.

“He told me about the celebrities he’s met and that he lives a high-end lifestyle,” the statement said.

“He did ask me about myself a bit, but he did speak mostly about himself … He came across as nice, and it was impressive that he knew so many A-list celebrities.”

The man said Lamarre-Condon also mentioned recently ending a “situationship” with a 26-year-old man, although he did not identify Jesse Baird by name.

Their second date took place in Bondi on February 6. After eating at Bangkok Bites and having Messina ice cream, Lamarre-Condon drove him in his Tesla to a lookout at North Bondi.

There, Lamarre-Condon showed him a “fireplace” function on the Tesla, which displays a video of a burning fireplace on the vehicle’s screen.

The man said Lamarre-Condon explained that he did not want to turn it on because the person from his former situationship still had access to the Tesla app and could see what he was doing.

“He said he also needed to be careful about the music he played on Spotify because the other person was monitoring his Spotify.”

Around the time he allegedly killed Baird and Luke Davies, Lamarre-Condon sent the man a series of text messages and five voice recordings.

At 11.59pm on February 19 — the day of the alleged killings — Lamarre-Condon texted: “How was your Monday Mr? X.”

The man was asleep and replied the following day, saying his Monday had been “good” while asking how Lamarre-Condon’s day had gone and whether he had slept well.

On February 20, the day after the alleged murders, Lamarre-Condon sent voice messages saying he was “very sick” and had a day procedure scheduled at hospital.

The court has previously heard that Lamarre-Condon underwent a minor procedure at St Vincent’s Hospital in Darlinghurst on February 21.

In the recording read to the court, he said: “Sorry I’ve been a bit MIA, I’ve been sick and I have this operation today so I’m a bit nervous about it … I always feel worried about having anaesthetic.

“I’m just not feeling the best … trying to get back into a positive mindset.”

He turned down an invitation to a boat party, saying he did not feel positive about his body.

“I haven’t been to the gym this week, I have no intention of going to the gym this week, and I don’t want to be on a boat full of gays,” he said in the voice message.

In a further message, he added: “Sorry, I don’t want to sound like I’m whinging, I’m actually a pretty positive person, so it’s the perfect weather [for a boat party] but I’m going to bed.”

On February 21, Lamarre-Condon sent a third voice message in which he said he was nervous about the procedure but looked forward to seeing the man again.

“I have to get my health back up and back into the headspace,” he said.

The court previously heard that, after undergoing the procedure, Lamarre-Condon drove Baird and Davies’ bodies to a rural property, where he left them beside a fence.

The next day, Lamarre-Condon left another voicemail saying: “Don’t worry, I didn’t block you, I have just shut down all my social media, I’m going to have a bit of a break, mentally.”

He described social media as “addictive” and said he had “temporarily deactivated” his accounts.

The man said he never heard from Lamarre-Condon again.
