Compiling Doctor Doom’s worst crimes is practically the same as surveying some of the Marvel Universe’s darkest moments. Although the iconic villain is often portrayed as a complex and even sympathetic figure, he is capable of extraordinary cruelty when his ambitions are at stake. Watch Looper’s video above for a look at the most disturbing things Doom has done throughout his long history.
In his own mind, Doctor Doom is often the hero of his story. Yet beneath that self-image is a vain megalomaniac who consistently places his own interests—and his belief in his own superiority—above everyone else. That mindset has driven Victor Von Doom to commit atrocities so extreme that even many of Marvel’s most notorious villains would be horrified.
Doctor Doom’s long history of villainy
With Robert Downey Jr.’s take on Doctor Doom set to enter the Marvel Cinematic Universe in “Avengers: Doomsday,” now is an ideal time to revisit the character’s immense power—and the horrifying lengths he can reach. Doom has sacrificed people close to him in pursuit of his objectives and gained additional power through deeply deceptive methods. At his most ruthless, he can be even more frightening than Thanos.
Doctor Doom follows a personal code of morality, but that code almost always begins and ends with Doom himself. Everyone else is expected to come second. Over the years, that self-serving philosophy has produced some truly monstrous acts. Looper’s video above explores the deeds that could help set the stage for what audiences might see when Doom begins executing his latest plans in “Avengers: Doomsday.”
