CHICAGO (WLS) — Two men were arrested in Chicago’s Southwest Side by Immigration and Customs Enforcement agents.

“It’s terrifying,” stated Byron Sigcho-Lopez, 25th Alderman. “This situation could affect anyone. We’ve witnessed legal residents, and even U.S. citizens face detention. We should not accept this as normal.”

The arrests happened near 18th and Carpenter streets around 8:30 a.m. on Monday.

Video shared with ABC7 shows several people wearing FBI vests in the neighborhood.

The FBI released the following statement confirming their involvement in the raid:

“We can verify that the FBI was assisting the Department of Homeland Security with immigration enforcement activities at a location in the mentioned area earlier today, leading to the detention of two individuals.”

The immigration status of the two men has not been made public.

“According to numerous witnesses and video footage, there was no effort made to identify the person for processing,” Sigcho-Lopez remarked.
