Elaine’s rise to fame gradually began in December of 2000, when she joined CNN Newsource, an affiliate of CNN. In the following year, she covered the September 11 attacks, and two years later spent a month in Kuwait City covering the US invasion of Iraq. During the same year, Elaine covered the Beltway sniper attacks as well as the Space Shuttle Columbia disaster.

In 2004, Elaine became a Washington, D.C.-based general assignment correspondent for CNN/US, and during the same year covered not only the Supreme Court and the Pentagon, but also the re-election campaign of President George W. Bush, all of which helped to increase her net worth by a large amount. Two years later, she was promoted to the position of White House correspondent for CNN, covering the George W. Bush administration, where she worked until December of 2009, when she left CNN.
