Snowfall fans are getting closer to a spin-off.

In 2023, Deadline disclosed that a spinoff of the FX series was in the early stages of development. This was confirmed when the network officially ordered a pilot in March, according to Variety. Additional information about the project, which still remains untitled, has now emerged.

The original series, Snowfall, was created by John Singleton, who sadly passed away in 2019. It portrayed the crack cocaine crisis in Los Angeles during the 1980s. The show first premiered in 2017 and continued for six seasons on FX. The cast featured Damson Idris, Carter Hudson, Isaiah John, Sergio Peris-Mencheta, Angela Lewis, Amin Joseph, Michael Hyatt, and Gail Bean.

Curious about which of the original cast will be part of the spinoff? What is the premise of the Snowfall spin-off? Here is all the information currently known about the new series.

Who is in the cast of the new Snowfall spin-off pilot?

Isaiah John and Gail Bean are reprising their roles as Leon Simmons and Wanda Bell-Simmons, per Variety. The two actors’ characters tied the knot in Season 6 of the original series.

Meanwhile Variety also announced that Asante Blackk (This is Us, The Proud Family: Louder and Prouder), Peyton Alex Smith (All American: Homecoming), and Simmie Sims III, who performs with the name Buddy (Rap Sh!t) have been cast as series regulars, though intel on their roles has yet to be revealed.

What is the Snowfall spin-off pilot about?

Deadline had teased that the pilot, written by executive producer Malcolm Spellman, would be set in the ’90s back in 2023. According to Variety, the logline of the pilot goes as follows:

“Set in 90s Los Angeles soon after the end of the original series, a recovering addict (Bean) strives to take West Coast rap mainstream despite potential infighting from a harrowing gang war.”

When is the release date for the Snowfall spin-off pilot?

A release date has yet to be announced for the pilot of the new Snowfall spin-off. We will update this story as soon as that information becomes available.
