Bournemouth have confirmed Darren Randolph is recovering after the goalkeeper was taken away on a stretcher having fallen unwell before a development squad match.

The veteran goalkeeper was reportedly surrounded by medics and carried off in the warm-up before Tuesday’s Professional Development League game with Ipswich.

Randolph had been due to start the match in goal for the Cherries development squad.

Bournemouth development squad head coach Alan Connell confirmed post-match that Randolph was feeling ‘much better’ despite the worrying sight of the goalkeeper being taken off on a stretcher.

‘Darren Randolph felt unwell in the warm-up and needed medical attention,’ Connell said.

‘All the medical team were straight on to help him, which was great.

‘Pleased that he is back in now and feeling much better and left the stadium of his own accord.

‘We’re really happy with the outcome.

It’s a shame he didn’t play tonight but obviously his health is the most important thing.’

The Bournemouth Echo reported that Randolph passed all medical checks, with the goalkeeper cleared to leave the stadium of his own accord.

Cameron Plain replaced Randolph in the starting eleven for the development squad match, which Ipswich won 3-1 at at the Vitality Stadium.

Randolph is yet to start for Bournemouth’s first team since being signed as cover last January from West Ham.

The Republic of Ireland international is serving as the back-up to Neto and Ionuț Radu.
