Roma boss Jose Mourinho has claimed that he’s unsure whether he’ll still be in the job for next season’s campaign, amid uncertainty over his future at the club.

Mourinho has spent two years with the Serie A giants and managed to lead them to an inaugural Europa League Conference title before reaching the Europa League final last year.

Despite his success in Europe, ‘the Special One’ is under growing pressure in Rome given the side’s early season form which has seen them fall to 10th in the table.

And that day could be sooner than expected after the 60-year-old revealed that he’s unsure whether he’ll be in charge of Roma next season.

When asked whether he will be at the club in 2024-25, Mourinho said: ‘I don’t know. Before [the Final in] Budapest, I had promised players I would stay.

‘After the game with Spezia at the Stadio Olimpico, I told fans I’d stay, and here I am now.’

On Saturday, reports emerged that suggested Roma were prepared to sack Mourinho if his side fail to defeat Cagliari last weekend.

Luckily for Mourinho, Roma ran out 4-1 winners thanks to goals from Houssem Aouar, Andrea Belotti and Romelu Lukaku.

Despite this, the former Chelsea, Man United and Tottenham boss admitted that there is still large portion of the fanbase that are unhappy with his work.

‘There is Anti-Mourinhism too. Especially in Rome, you can find both sides,’ he replied.

‘Anti-Mourinhism is followed by people who are happy when Roma don’t win and when Roma have no European success.

‘They have fun on the radio and that’s fine. I’m saying this because I meet people on the street, in any part of the world, who identify with my way of living life. To me, however, the most important game is always the next one, the past is history.’

In his first season in charge Mourinho ended a more than half century wait for a European trophy at the club with victory over Feyenoord in the 2022 Europa Conference League final.

Then, last season the club reached the final of the Europa League for just the second time in their history before losing on penalties to Sevilla.

The former Man United boss recently revealed he turned down the chance to take over at Saudi side Al-Hilal this summer, knocking back reportedly the most lucrative contract ever offered to a manager, said to be worth £26m a year.
