Deftones, the renowned rock band, has been riding a wave of success on the Billboard charts for several months, a streak that continues this week. Last August, they released a new album titled Private Music, and several singles from this project have made impressive marks across various rock charts.
The buzz surrounding Private Music and its Grammy nomination for Best Rock Album has reignited America’s passion for Deftones’ earlier works. In fact, some of their older albums are making a notable comeback on U.S. charts. Their second album, Around the Fur, which marked a significant breakthrough for the band, is climbing to new heights on multiple listings.
Currently, Around the Fur is featured on half a dozen Billboard lists, reaching new peaks on two of them. It performs exceptionally well on the Vinyl Albums chart, jumping from No. 9 to No. 4, marking a new record for its tenth appearance on this chart.
Around the Fur Climbs to New Peaks on Two Charts
On the Top Album Sales chart, Around the Fur is nearing the top 10 for the first time, moving up from No. 15 to No. 12, which is its best position yet.
With Around the Fur advancing to fourth place on the Vinyl Albums chart, it becomes the fourth-highest ascending project by Deftones in this specific category. In 2020, they earned their first (and only) top position with Ohms, while both Private Music and Gore have peaked at the second spot, despite being released nearly a decade apart.
Around the Fur Ranks as One of Deftones’ Biggest Vinyl Wins
Though Around the Fur is now among Deftones’ most successful releases on the Vinyl Albums chart, it hasn’t achieved the same success on the Top Album Sales list. It remains the second-lowest-peaking album from the Grammy-winning band, and is one of only three out of their 10 top-selling albums to miss the top 10 completely. The album B-Sides and Rarities ranks even lower, having only reached No. 32.
Around the Fur Doesn’t Stand as One of the Band’s Bestsellers
While Around the Fur is now counted among the most successful Deftones releases on the Vinyl Albums chart, the same can’t be said when looking at the Top Album Sales list. Around the Fur is still counted as the second-lowest-peaking effort from the Grammy-winning group, and one of only three out of 10 total bestsellers to miss the top 10 entirely. Just B-Sides and Rarities stalled in a lower position, as it only ever lifted to No. 32.

Around the Fur improves its standing on all six Billboard charts where it takes up space this week, though it only surges to a new peak on one-third of them.
Deftones claim a pair of top 10 albums in the country, as Around the Fur pushes from No. 10 to No. 7 on the Top Hard Rock Albums list. The same full-length appears inside the top 40 on the Top Alternative Albums and Top Rock and Alternative Albums charts, landing at Nos. 20 and 35, respectively.
The Deftones classic sits lowest on the Billboard 200, the longest and most competitive of all albums rosters in the U.S., but that is also the tally where it improves by the greatest number of spaces. Around the Fur jumps from No. 180 to No. 158 as it celebrates 26 weeks, half a year, on the list.
White Pony Reenters the Album Sales Chart
For most Deftones fans, the focus is currently on Around the Fur, but that is not the only full-length from the rock band to mount something of a comeback. White Pony, which followed Around the Fur by three years, reappears on the Top Album Sales chart, breaking back in at No. 41. Interestingly, at the same time, it descends two spaces to No. 25 on the Top Hard Rock Albums list, falling to last place as Around the Fur steps closer and closer to the loftiest space.
