A new 14-hole golf course, named “Purebred Farm,” is set to grace the Kohler properties, situated about 55 miles north of Milwaukee in Kohler, Wisconsin. Renowned design team King-Collins and Trev Dormer are scheduled to kick off construction in the fall of 2025, with the course slated to open by fall 2027. This team, composed of Tad King, Rob Collins, and Trev Dormer—who joined the firm in 2024—are celebrated for their innovative designs that seamlessly combine playability with aesthetic appeal.
King-Collins-Dormer have already made their mark with acclaimed projects such as Sweetens Cove in Tennessee and Landmand in Nebraska, both of which have received national acclaim and are ranked among the top public-access courses in their respective states. Their influence extends internationally with a master plan at Royal Dornoch in Scotland, one of the world’s most prestigious golf clubs. This plan includes the development of a new 18-hole course and a renovation of the existing Struie Course. The team is also responsible for a much-anticipated course at 7 Mile Beach in Tasmania, reinforcing their status as one of the most innovative teams in golf course design.
Kohler is already home to two top-tier golf destinations: Whistling Straits and Blackwolf Run, offering four 18-hole courses. These include two courses at Whistling Straits and two at Blackwolf Run, as well as a 10-hole par-3 course, The Baths of Blackwolf Run, and a 10-hole putting course. All these courses were crafted by legendary architect Pete Dye, whose designs range from rugged, links-style seaside golf to dramatic prairie and ravine landscapes, making Kohler one of the most diverse and celebrated golf venues worldwide.
Dirk Willis, vice president of golf, landscape, and retail for Kohler Hospitality, expressed enthusiasm about the new development in a press release, stating, “Kohler is committed to growing the game of golf and expanding access to players of all skill levels. Each of the last five years has been record-setting in terms of rounds played at our Kohler, Wisconsin resort, and we expect this strong growth to continue. This additional golf course will provide another level of enjoyment for guests and further cement our position as a leading global golf destination.”
The Purebred Farm course will stretch approximately 4,900 yards from the tips and will be exclusively walkable. The routing will meander through prairies, farmland, and river valleys, deliberately steering clear of existing wetlands to maintain the site’s natural beauty. Golfers can look forward to a design that emphasizes ground-game creativity, with fast and firm turf that encourages imaginative play and rewards strategic thinking—hallmarks of the King-Collins-Dormer design ethos.
Kohler’s expansion isn’t limited to golf. The new facility, The Serve, has recently broken ground and will boast six indoor pickleball courts, two heated outdoor platform tennis courts, and an elevated social lounge. Once completed, The Serve will host tournaments, lessons, and recreational play, catering to guests of all ages and skill levels. The venue aims to become a lively, year-round gathering spot for community members and visitors to enjoy racquet sports.
Golf isn’t the only thing expanding at Kohler as it will be debuting The Serve, which broke ground earlier this month. The impressive facility will feature six indoor pickleball courts, two heated outdoor platform tennis courts, and an elevated social lounge. The new venue will host tournaments, lessons, and recreational play for guests of all ages and skill levels. Once open, The Serve will create a vibrant, year-round hub where the community and visitors can gather, compete, and enjoy racquet sports.
The game of golf continues to grow worldwide, and many premier destinations are following suit by expanding within their own properties. As the sport’s popularity surges, expect more top-tier resorts with available land to seize the opportunity, adding new courses and experiences to meet the ever-rising demand from golfers eager to explore fresh designs.
