Renowned Polish football icon Jan Tomaszewski has voiced strong criticism towards FC Barcelona’s head coach, Hansi Flick, and his team, following what he described as a lackluster performance. Tomaszewski insists that Flick should face dismissal if he fails to secure the Champions League trophy this season.

Tomaszewski’s comments came in response to Barcelona’s 4-2 victory over Slavia Prague on Wednesday. The match, played in frigid conditions, saw Barcelona initially trailing 1-0, before rallying to a comeback victory. However, the win was marred by the loss of midfielder Pedri, who is now sidelined for a month due to injury.

According to Tomaszewski, Barcelona’s star players were “simply outclassed,” while Flick’s approach seemed bold only after the team’s subpar performance in Prague.

Tomaszewski expressed concern that the team was operating at merely “40-50% of their potential,” which he found unacceptable for a club of Barcelona’s stature.

He further noted, “Remember, nine players were sidelined, not due to direct injuries, but because they were physically unable to continue with the team.”

Despite Flick’s successful first season, where he achieved a domestic treble and led the team to the Champions League semifinals, Tomaszewski firmly believes that winning the Champions League is essential for Flick to retain his position at Barcelona.

Despite scooping a domestic treble in his first season, and reaching the semifinals of the competition where his men fell to Inter Milan, “Flick has to win the Champions League” to stay at Barca, says Tomaszewski.

“If he doesn’t win, he should be kicked out because he just doesn’t fit into this team. He has turned them into half-hearted players and Barca have a great team,” the former goalkeeper went on.
