“Who wants to rock with Jennie?” Apparently, the Asian Pop Music Awards do. The 2025 nominees have been announced, and Jennie leads the pack with nine nominations, underscoring her impressive solo achievements and BLACKPINK’s lasting global impact.
The awards ceremony, backed by Hong Kong’s Asia VVV Entertainment Group and the UK VVV Music Group LTD, took a moment of pause this year. Originally scheduled for an earlier date, the announcement was delayed due to a tragic fire in a Hong Kong estate building. The organizers expressed their condolences before unveiling the full list of nominees on December 1.
Hot on Jennie’s heels are G-Dragon and Lay Zhang, each securing eight nominations, while Jackson Wang, recognized by Forbes Asia as a 30 Under 30 honoree, follows closely with seven. These artists highlight the widespread influence of K-pop, having all started in Korean groups but achieving remarkable solo success across China, the U.S., and globally.
Jolin Tsai, a powerhouse in Chinese pop, garnered six nominations, matching the tally of Jennie’s BLACKPINK bandmate Rosé. Jisoo received five nods, while Lisa earned four, with BLACKPINK collectively also making the list.
BLACKPINK has a strong track record at the Asian Pop Music Awards. They claimed the Album of the Year title in 2020 for The Album and again in 2022 for Born Pink. Individually, Jennie, Rosé, and Lisa have all won at least one award at the 2024 APMAs, showcasing their individual talents.
With 16 awards to his name, Mandopop sensation JJ Lin holds the record for the most APMA wins since the event’s inception in 2020. This year, with three nominations, he has the opportunity to add to his impressive collection. Meanwhile, Lay Zhang, with 12 wins, shares the second-place spot for most APMA wins with K-pop group SEVENTEEN and could surpass Lin with his eight nominations this year.
With 16 trophies to date, Mandopop icon JJ Lin is the most-awarded artist in APMA history since the ceremony first kicked off in 2020 and has the chance to expand his winnings with three nominations this year. Lay Zhang has the chance to surpass Lin with his eight nods this year after 12 wins under his belt, the title for second-most APMA wins that he shares with K-pop superstar group SEVENTEEN.
Other major Asian artists spotlighted this year include Chinese pop idol turned fearless solo supesrtar KUN, Japanese singer-songwriter Kenshi Yonezu, Taiwanese R&B-rock crossover star David Tao and multinational K-pop girl group aespa all scored four nominees too.
All of the artists are also competing in the APMA 2025 People’s Choice Award which is the only fan-voted category where music lovers can use social media platforms including WeChat, Instagram, Weibo and X (formerly known as Twitter) to vote for their favorites from the year. Traditionally, the People’s Choice winners are part of a Top 10 list of winners.
Read the full list of nominations for the 2025 Asian Pop Music Awards below. Further information about the ceremony and winners reveal are expected to be revealed soon, but may also be delayed as Hong Kong heals from the late-November fire tragedy.
