Illinois City Bars DHS Secretary Noem From City Hall and Intends to Tear Down ICE-Installed Barricades

The situation in Broadview, Illinois, is nearing a critical level as local authorities appear to support anti-ICE demonstrators who are confronting the federal immigration detention center located there.

Earlier today, Kristi Noem, the Secretary of the Department of Homeland Security, arrived at the Broadview detention facility, where she was met by disorderly protesters.

The ongoing tensions in Broadview began shortly after Immigration and Customs Enforcement initiated Operation Midway Blitz on September 8. An initial major clash between federal agents and the demonstrators occurred on September 19, and the conflict has intensified since then. This reflects a growing trend of violence at ICE facilities, which have seen incidents involving gunshots and casualties.

Upon leaving the vicinity, Secretary Noem attempted to enter the city hall but was denied access and confronted by an individual at the entrance.

During Secretary Noem’s visit, Broadview Police Chief Thomas Mills appeared to be making bold statements that could prove difficult to fulfill.

He claims, without proof, that ICE has acted illegally to erect fencing to keep obviously violence-prone demonstrators away from the detention facility. Mills says he knows his job, which has yet to be demonstrated, and when asked, “Are you guys ready to break that fence down, if you have to?” He answered:

We are.

Broadview is already clearly in violation of the Insurrection Act (10 U.S. Code § 253 (2)). This happens when the local government “opposes or obstructs the execution of the laws of the United States or impedes the course of justice under those laws.” This section is just as applicable today in Broadview as it was in any KKK dominated part of the former Confederacy during the Reconstruction Era. The police chief’s threat to attempt, though it would be a laughable attempt, to remove ICE-erected barricades on the grounds that there was no permit, and that his emergency services are staffed with low-functioning cretins who can’t figure out how to navigate around a single cross-street, is an obvious attempt to obstruct operations and put federal staff and detainees at risk.

If Proud Boys could be arrested for seditious conspiracy while not even in Washington, DC, on January 6, 2021, this guy should be hauled off in handcuffs after a 6 a.m. visit by an FBI SWAT team.

The show of force by ICE and federal agents around the country is not having the desired effect because not only are the protesters receiving living quarters and perhaps a stipend for their participation, but the local governments in Portland, Oregon, and Broadview, as well as other places, are tacitly allied with the demonstrators. Unless and until the federal government starts treating them as what they are, that would be insurrectionists, then the demonstrators will only feel more emboldened toward violence.

Editor’s Note: The Schumer Shutdown is here. Rather than put the American people first, Chuck Schumer and the radical Democrats forced a government shutdown for healthcare for illegals. They own this.
