After three weeks as the number one movie in America, Sinners has finally stepped away from the top spot at the box office. For the weekend dated May 2 through 4, the film Thunderbolts led the charge, bringing in more than $74 million. Sinners only slipped to second place, which is an incredible showing for a project that has now been in theaters for several weeks, as the Ryan Coogler-directed picture continues to bring in tens of millions of dollars in ticket sales. The music, which features heavily in the plot, is also growing in popularity across the U.S., just as the movie itself begins to drop ever so slightly.
Sinners Soundtrack Almost Hits No. 1
This frame, the Sinners soundtrack, which features songs performed in the movie, as well as a number of inspired-by compositions, jumps from No. 5, where it debuted last frame, to the runner-up rung on the Soundtracks chart. It’s held back only by another full-length musical set attached to a blockbuster, though not one that’s still in theaters.
The Twisters album remains steady at No. 1 on the Soundtracks chart. It earns its eighteenth stay in the penthouse on the consumption-based tally — nearly half of the 41 frames it’s racked up somewhere on the roster. It’s entirely possible that in the coming weeks, Sinners may overtake Twisters and hit No. 1 on a second list.
Sinners Already Rules One Billboard List
The Sinners soundtrack has already led the charge on one Billboard ranking, and it earns a second turn in the penthouse this frame. After launching at No. 1 on the Blues Albums chart, Sinners doesn’t budge an inch. This roster is likely far less competitive than the Soundtracks list, so Sinners could continue to rule for some time to come.
Sinners Hits New Peak on the Billboard 200
As the Sinners album reaches a new peak on the Soundtracks-only ranking, it also rises to a new high on the Top Americana/Folk Albums chart. This time around, it nearly enters the top 10, jumping from No. 18 to No. 12.
At the same time, the full-length debuts on the Billboard 200, which may be its most impressive showing yet. That list ranks the most-consumed albums of any style in the U.S., blending both streaming and sales activity. According to Luminate, the soundtrack shifted a little more than 10,700 equivalent units in the past tracking period — a huge sum for what is essentially a blues record.
Two Sinners Albums on the Charts
Two full-lengths have been issued connected to the Sinners movie. In addition to the soundtrack, a largely instrumental score was also shared. That title is also still present inside the top 10 on the Blues Albums chart. As the soundtrack holds at No. 1, the score drops from its peak of No. 5 to seventh place.
