Qatar Airways used this open-creation platform to build QVerse Island, taking advantage of UEFN’s high-fidelity graphics, multiplayer support, and open-source-aligned development environment. The technology allowed the airline to recreate Doha landmarks and its own aircraft interiors in remarkable detail.

What Players Will See On QVerse Island On Fortnite

The QVerse Island tour begins at a virtual Hamad International Airport, complete with Qatar Airways branding and a digital version of Sama as the in-world guide. Players can explore Qsuite, the airline’s unique multi-passenger business-class suite that accommodates groups of four seated together. They can also visit the ORCHARD, Hamad International Airport’s luxury retail and dining space, the National Museum of Qatar and the West Bay skyline, recreated using Fortnite’s advanced modeling tools.

The airline has designed interactive challenges for gamers set across Doha’s major attractions. Sama, who also works for the airline as a booking guide and as an Instagram influencer, guides players through missions around the island, combining virtual sightseeing with puzzle-solving and exploration.

Compared to other airline WiFi services that rely on satellites in higher orbits, Starlink’s Low-Earth Orbit satellite constellation significantly reduces latency, which made Qatar Airways’ live in-flight gaming event possible.

With speeds comparable to at-home fibre broadband, passengers can stream 4K video, watch live sports, play multiplayer online games, run real-time video calls or join e-sports competitions in-flight.

The airline further proved the speed and agility of its Starlink in-flight connectivity by hosting a “Sky Studio Challenge” inviting two influential AI film-makers—PJ Accetturo and Torey Kohara— to “generate, render, edit, and publish full AI-produced”commercials during a 15-hour flight from Doha to Atlanta. The challenge was arranged in collaboration with Google, with the film makers using the Gemini’s video and image AI generation models.

Since introducing Starlink, Qatar Airways has equipped nearly 120 of its widebody aircraft with the service, offering fast, free WiFi across all cabins.

The airline plans to extend Starlink to more aircraft, transforming in-flight connectivity into an entertainment platform and a productivity tool.
