Jeremy Renner makes his anticipated return in the latest installment of Mayor of Kingstown, now in its fourth season, which sees Edie Falco joining the ensemble.
Renner reprises his role as Mike McLusky, a former inmate thrust into the role of “Mayor” of Kingstown, Michigan, following the murder of his older brother Mitch (played by Kyle Chandler) in the series’ opening episode back in 2021. Tasked with the challenging duty of maintaining order both inside the prisons and on the streets, Mike navigates the tense dynamics between prisoners, guards, police, and local gangs.
This season, the challenges for Mike hit closer to home as his younger brother Kyle (Taylor Handley) faces incarceration after a tense incident where he shot a fellow SWAT officer during a tumultuous operation at the end of Season 3. Mike’s efforts to ensure Kyle’s safety are complicated by the arrival of a formidable new prison warden, Nina Hobbs (portrayed by Falco), who is set on disrupting Mike’s established methods.
The storyline for Season 4 of Mayor of Kingstown describes a scenario where Mike’s hold on Kingstown is jeopardized as fresh contenders vie for dominance following the Russians’ departure. This forces Mike to confront an escalating gang war threatening to engulf the town. With his loved ones in greater peril than ever, Mike must also deal with the resolute new Warden while facing his own haunting past.
This season, Mike finds his struggles a bit more personal since his younger brother, Kyle (Taylor Handley), is facing prison time after firing on a fellow SWAT team member during a chaotic operation at the conclusion of Season 3. In Mike’s way to make sure Kyle is protected behind bars is a hard-nosed new prison warden, Nina Hobbs (Falco), who is looking to upend the powerbroker and fixer’s system.
The summary for Mayor of Kingstown Season 4 reads, “Mike’s control over Kingstown is threatened as new players compete to fill the power vacuum left in the Russians’ wake, compelling him to confront the resulting gang war and stop them from swallowing the town. Meanwhile, with those he loves in more danger than ever before, Mike must contend with a headstrong new Warden to protect his own while grappling with demons from his past.”
