Trump seeks $6.2 million in legal fees from Fani Willis' office over election interference case

ATLANTA – Former President Donald Trump is pursuing over $6.2 million in attorney fees and related expenses from the Fulton County District Attorney’s Office. This action follows the dismissal of an election interference case against him and several others.

Last year, Georgia legislators enacted a law allowing individuals to recover all reasonable legal fees and costs if a prosecutor is disqualified due to misconduct and the case is subsequently dismissed. This law now plays a pivotal role in Trump’s legal strategy.

The controversy surrounding Fulton County District Attorney Fani Willis resulted in her removal from the case. The decision was based on concerns of an “appearance of impropriety” due to her personal relationship with the special prosecutor she appointed. The case was ultimately dismissed in November by a new prosecutor who assumed control late last year.

Steve Sadow, Trump’s lead attorney in Georgia, emphasized this legal basis in his statement: “In accordance with Georgia law, President Trump has moved the Court to award reasonable attorney fees and costs incurred in his defense of the politically motivated, and now rightfully dismissed, case brought by disqualified DA Fani Willis.”

The Associated Press has attempted to contact representatives for Fani Willis for their comments on this development.
