Following Wicked’s blockbuster release last year, there’s a ton of excitement brewing for Part 2 of the fantasy movie musical starring Ariana Grande and Cynthia Erivo. The official Wicked: For Good trailer is finally out to the public, following its debut at a special screening of the first film on June 4.

Directed by Jon M. Chu, the Wicked films are based on the Tony-winning Broadway musical “Wicked,” which itself was inspired by Gregory Maguire’s 1995 novel reimagining the iconic characters from The Wizard of Oz. The movie was split into two parts; Wicked: Part One was released on Nov. 22, 2024, while the second part, later renamed Wicked: For Good, will debut later in 2025.

For one day only on July 4, Wicked returned to the big screen for a nationwide special screening at a set time, allowing everyone to experience the movie together. Following the film, the official trailer for Wicked: For Good premiered in theaters before its online debut around 8:57 p.m. ET.

Here’s everything to know about Wicked: For Good, including how to watch the trailer, the release date, songs and more.

How To Watch The New Wicked: For Good Trailer

Audiences can watch the first trailer for Wicked: For Good on Wednesday, June 4, immediately following the limited screening of Wicked, which is set to begin at 6 p.m. ET.

When Will Wicked: For Good Be Released Online?

The Wicked: For Good trailer is now available to watch online. Check out the over two-minute sneak peek below, which also teases a few major changes from the stage play.

One major spoiler revealed in the trailer is that Dorothy Gale will have a bigger role in the films than in the musical, where she was only shown as a shadow. In the trailer, Dorothy and her friends are seen walking down the Yellow Brick Road on their way to see the Wonderful Wizard of Oz.

“That intersection is the place that we were first introduced into Oz,” Chu told Vanity Fair of Dorothy’s role in the films. “We tread lightly, but try to make more sense of how it impacts our girls and our characters than maybe the show does.” And for the fans who might be nervous because of that change, he responded, “We’re delicate. We’re delicate. We’re delicate.”

In the trailer, fans can also hear part of a song that may not be recognizable from the original musical, possibly hinting at one of the two new songs written for Part 2. Additionally, Glinda is seen wearing a wedding dress, suggesting she may be walking down the aisle to marry Jonathan Bailey’s Fiyero – something that doesn’t happen in the beloved stage production.

“It’s life or death for all of them, so a wedding seemed appropriate,” Chu confirmed to Vanity Fair. He added that their nuptials could also heighten the ante for Glinda’s relationship with Fiyero and her friendship with Elphaba. “It’s harder to forgive certain things in certain scenarios,” he said. “It makes it more complicated.”

When Is Wicked: For Good Coming Out?

Wicked: For Good will premiere in theaters on Nov. 21, 2025 – almost exactly one year after the release of the first film.

What Will Wicked: For Good Be About?

Wicked: For Good picks up after the events of Part One, where Elphaba and Glinda discover that the Wizard is a fraud, and Elphaba is declared the new enemy of Oz.

The next chapter will focus on the lead-up to The Wizard of Oz, including how Elphaba becomes the Wicked Witch of the West and how Glinda becomes the Good Witch. “In full control of her powers, Elphaba is declared an enemy of the state by the Wizard and Madame Morrible,” the synopsis reads.

“I think the meat of what Wicked is all about happens in movie two. To me, this is why this story exists,” Chu also teased to Vanity Fair. “This is where our childhood dreams collide with our adult selves.”

When Was Wicked: For Good Filmed?

Wicked: For Good was filmed back-to-back with Wicked: Part One from December 2022 to July 2023, with production wrapping in January 2024 due to delays caused by the Hollywood strikes.

Chu also confirmed to Vanity Fair that the movie was shot simultaneously in the UK.

“A lot of movie two was shot before some of the stuff in movie one,” Chu said, adding that this forced Erivo and Grande to carefully map out the time jumps. “We had big boards with what timeline we’d be in, and they had notes all over their script so we could all be in sync of where we’re at.”

The director compared the process of editing For Good to delving into a time capsule, and he also teased that some parts of the sequel will shed light on choices made in Part One. “Things that you may have noticed in movie one, you’ll see why those things are there,” he continued. “It is designed to be seen big and felt deeply.”

It’s currently unknown how long the sequel will be. The first cut for Wicked: Part One was close to four hours long before it was edited down to 2 hours and 40 minutes.

What Songs Will Be Featured In Wicked: For Good?

Wicked: For Good is expected to feature beloved hits from the second half of the Broadway musical, including “As Long As You’re Mine” and “For Good.” However, viewers will also get to hear two new songs written specifically for the films, composer-lyricist Stephen Schwartz confirmed to The Messenger in December 2024.

“The storytelling required it, and therefore they were created,” Schwartz said of the additions. “The intention was that they were organic and not imposed on the movie.”

Erivo later revealed that one of the new songs will be sung by Elphaba – and that she had a hand in co-writing it. “I don’t know if you’re ready for it,” the actress said on Variety‘s Awards Circuit podcast. “I feel like the song is very, very special. I have a feeling that even the title will move you.”

Here are some of the songs you can expect to hear in Wicked: For Good.

  • “Thank Goodness” Sung by Glinda, Madame Morrible and Citizens of Oz
  • “The Wicked Witch of the East” by Elphaba, Nessarose and Boq
  • “Wonderful” by The Wizard and Elphaba
  • “I’m Not That Girl (Reprise)” by Glinda
  • “As Long As You’re Mine” by Elphaba and Fiyero
  • “No Good Deed” by Elphaba
  • “March of the Witch Hunters” by Boq and Ozians
  • “For Good” by Glinda and Elphaba
  • Finale Song
