Topline

President Donald Trump late on Wednesday called out Republican House members who have refused to back his signature policy megabill and warned that this would cost them votes from his base, as the party’s leaders in the chamber attempted to coax the remaining holdouts to back a stalled procedural vote to advance the legislation passed by the Senate.

Key Facts

In a post on his Truth Social Platform, Trump claimed passing the megabill would lead to the “Largest Tax Cuts in History and a Booming Economy” and then asked, “What are the Republicans waiting for??? What are you trying to prove??? ”

The president then warned the GOP holdouts that “MAGA IS NOT HAPPY AND IT’S COSTING YOU VOTES!!!”

In a follow-up post, a short while later, Trump wrote: “FOR REPUBLICANS, THIS SHOULD BE AN EASY YES VOTE. RIDICULOUS!!!”

An ongoing procedural vote to move the bill forward remained stalled on the House floor early on Thursday, as at least five GOP House members said they were voting no on its passage.

House Speaker Mike Johnson, R-La., can only afford three “no” votes from the GOP camp to ensure the bill passes, and he told reporters early on Thursday that he thinks the holdouts are “going to come on board.”

The speaker insisted they will be able to pass the megabill before Trump’s stated July 4 deadline.

How Have Trump Aides Reacted To The Gop Holdouts?

Several key aides of the president took social media to warn the holdouts that anyone voting against the bill will be seen as voting along side the Democrats and against Trump’s agenda. In a post on X, Trump aide Jason Miller wrote: “You can vote with [Trump], or you can vote with the Democrats. If you vote with the Democrats, you’re not voting with the Republicans…It’s a binary choice.” In a post on her official X account White House Press Secretary Karoline Leavitt wrote: Anyone who votes AGAINST the One Big Beautiful Bill” is voting against key Trump campaign promises like no taxes on tips and overtime pay. Stephen Miller, the White House deputy chief of staff on policy, urged “every Republican in Congress” to “Honor the mandate. Honor the moment. Stand with Trump.”

Who Are The Gop House Members Who Have Voted No?

Reps. Andrew Clyde, R-Ga., Brian Fitzpatrick, R-Penn., Victoria Spartz, R-Ind., Keith Self, R-Texas, are the four GOP house members who voted no on the procedural vote. Rep. Thomas Massie, R-Ky., who has earned Trump’s ire for his continued criticism of the bill, voted yes initially but later switched his vote to no. Eight other Republican house members have not yet cast their vote.
