Tuesday, May 17th Solution Guide

Welcome back, Wordlers! It’s Tuesday and it’s gorgeous out and even though Summer doesn’t officially begin until June 21st, it sure feels like it has.

The nice thing about Wordle is that it’s a quick, clean game with just one answer a day. You don’t get bogged down on your phone for too long, and then you’re off going about your day—hopefully getting outside into nature and enjoying this amazing weather. (Well, I hope you’re also having amazing weather anyways . . . ).

Today’s Wordle is #332 which is kind of crazy when you think about it. There are a total of 2,309 Wordle answers, which means we’re just shy of 15% of the total Wordles out there. The game has only been going since October of 2021 and there are over six years of Wordle answers to go through. I’m imagining writing the 2,309th guide . . . in my late 40s!

Okay, that’s a dark path I don’t want to go down just this moment. Birds are chirping outside. The sun is shining. We don’t need to think about aging and the passing of time. Instead, let’s get to today’s Wordle.

Today’s Wordle #332 Hint & Answer

As always, spoilers ahead. Wouldn’t want to get spoiled reading a Wordle answer guide!

First, the hint:

The act of simply existing.

And the answer is . . . .

So my opening guess was a pretty good one but just didn’t stick the landing. According to Wordle Bot, plate will normally reduce the possible solutions to just 89 but today it fell short at 178. Ouch! Crane, obviously, would have been better.

Wordle Bot didn’t love my next guess. Apparently I should have gone with diner instead of adieu even though I cut the possible solutions down from 178 to just 7 here. I don’t see how diner would have done any better, but I guess most of the time it would.

Exits was not a great choice, and Wordle Bot definitely smacked me down for this one. Reign would have been better, and I agree, though I didn’t think of reign at the time! If I had, sure, it would have given me almost every letter I needed and made the correct answer obvious. My guess narrowed possible answers to just 5, but that’s still too many.

Fortunately, my next guess was the right one—a “lucky guess” as Wordle Bot is quick to remind me. Other possible answers for this guess included: feign, neigh, reign, and weigh. Guess I did get lucky!

The word being is kind of interesting. It can refer to a noun—a being, perhaps a being from another planet—or it can be used as a verb. The act of simply being is quite Zen when you think about it. But you could also say, “You’re being mean and I don’t like it, please stop.” That’s a little less peaceful, but certainly useful when we need to communicate. It’s gentler than saying You are mean or you are a mean person. The softer being implies that it’s a temporary condition; you are being mean rather than you are mean.

In any case, have a terrific Tuesday, Wordlers! Be excellent to each other.
