“The incredible and legendary Charlie Kirk has passed away,” Trump said. “Nobody understood or connected with the youth of America like Charlie. He was admired and cherished by everyone, especially me, and now, he is gone. Melania and I extend our deepest condolences to his lovely wife Erika and his family. Charlie, we love you!”
Charlie Kirk, who established Turning Point USA at age 18, saw the organization thrive, with its revenue hitting $81.7 million by 2023, according to TIME. He attracted millions of followers by hosting engaging debates and podcasts at college campuses to represent diverse viewpoints. His popular YouTube channel boasts four million subscribers.
Initially covered by AP and NBC, a person of interest was detained, as reported by FBI Director Kash Patel on X. However, later on Wednesday, the FBI issued a follow-up statement mentioning, “the individual in custody was released after questioning by authorities.” According to the AP, officials are now on the lookout for another person of interest.
