Washington, D.C., Mayor Muriel Bowser (D), along with other district officials, is set to testify before the House Oversight Committee on Thursday morning, addressing crime and the overall governance of the nation’s capital.

This hearing follows over a month after President Trump sent National Guard troops and federal law enforcement to D.C. to enhance street patrols and combat crime.

Oversight Committee Chair James Comer (R-Ky.) stated last week in a press release about the event, “All Americans should feel safe in their capital city, yet the radical left-wing policies promoted by the D.C. Council have allowed truancy and violent crime to thrive.”

He further remarked, “This Committee is performing its constitutional role in overseeing District affairs and is committed to ensuring a safe and prosperous D.C. for all Americans.”

Additionally, earlier this week, the House passed four bills aimed at overhauling the criminal justice system in D.C. and restructuring the handling of juvenile cases.

Thursday’s hearing is scheduled to begin at 10 a.m. EDT.
