Can you still go to the pub with friends in tier 2 areas?

London will be moved into a tier two lockdown, as the capital’s coronavirus cases continue to climb, health secretary Matt Hancock has confirmed.

The capital will join the likes of Nottingham, Manchester, Newcastle, Lancashire, Bolton and Sheffield which are also currently classed as a ‘high’ alert areas.

The current stressful climate has Brits itching to meet up with their friends in the pub and let their hair down, but tier two has tighter social gathering restrictions.

Unfortunately, pub meet-ups with anyone living outside your household are banned.

You can only meet up indoors, including both private homes and public hospitality venues, with members of your household or those in your support bubble.

However, you can still meet friends outdoors, meaning you can meet up in beer gardens and outdoor seated areas of restaurants, as well as parks and beaches.

You must adhere to the rule of 6 and maintain social distancing.

What are the rules for visiting pubs in tier 2 areas?

Along with the indoor social gathering ban, you must also follow the current pub rules in place across the country.

This includes ‘checking in’ to the pub’s Test and Trace system, be it via the NHS Covid-19 app or by giving them your name and phone number.

Customers must wear masks at all times, other than when sat down to eat or drink. Remember to wear your mask when you pop to the loo.

Pubs must also adhere to the 10pm curfew.

You cannot order at the bar, every pub must provide table service.
