A performer who appeared during the Super Bowl halftime show faced charges on Thursday for two minor offenses, about 4 and a half months after he ran onto the field at the Superdome with a flag featuring the words “Sudan and Free Gaza,” as announced by the Louisiana State Police.

Zul-Qarnain Kwame Nantambu, aged 41, voluntarily surrendered to law enforcement to address charges of resisting a police officer and disrupting the peace by interrupting a lawful gathering, as indicated by the police. He arranged his surrender with the help of his attorney and was later booked at the Orleans Parish Justice Center.

Nantambu unfurled the flag and ran onto the field during rapper Kendrick Lamar’s halftime show on February 9. He was apprehended on the spot but was not immediately charged. The NFL declared that he would be permanently banned from their stadiums and events.

According to a statement from police, Nantambu had been hired as an extra performer and “had permission to be on the field during the performance, but did not have permission to demonstrate as he did.”

NFL spokesman Brian McCarthy thanked investigators for their work.

“We take any attempt to disrupt any part of an NFL game, including the halftime show, very seriously and are pleased this individual will be held accountable to the fullest extent of the law,” McCarthy said in a statement.
