Who is Allison Chinchar?

Allison Chinchar, born on the 9th of April 1984, is an American journalist and meteorologist.who has become known for her work with the international news network, CNN. She is also known as the wife of fellow meteorologist and storm chaser, Mike Bettes.

Allison Chinchar’s Early Life

Chinchar was born in Mansfield, Ohio; not much information is known about her personal family life and early education, until she attended Ohio State University studying Atmospheric Science and Meteorology, and graduating in 2008. While at Ohio State, she was a member of the Meteorology Club and the Delta Delta Sorority.

Allison Chinchar’s Career

Even while at university, Chinchar had already begun working as a meteorologist in 2006,with  Buckeye TV where she produced and hosted the weather condition report. Right after graduation, she began working as a meteorologist at WTVC-TV News Channel 9 until she left in January of 2011, serving as their weekend evening meteorologist. Her early years as a meteorologist helped establish her career, as well as her net worth.

In 2011, Chinchar then joined WKRN-TV in the Greater Nashville Area, Tennessee where she stayed for a year and a half as their weekend evening meteorologist, then the following year, she moved to WXIA in Atlanta, Georgia, serving as their weekend meteorologist for three years.

Chinchar received a huge career break when she became part of the international news station, CNN in June of 2015. Some of Bettes’ work credits include hosting “Abrams & Bettes Beyond the Forecast” from 2006 to 2009, “Your Weather Today” from 2009 to 2012, and “Wake Up With Al” from 2009 to 2014. He is currently working for The Weather Channel in Atlanta, Georgia, co-hosting “AMHQ: America’s Morning Headquarters”, and hosting “Weather Underground TV.” He also occasionally front reports on the weather on “The Today Show.”

Some of his most memorable works include accompanying scientists for The Weather Channel on their coverage of VORTEX2, reporting live from Hurricane Sandy, as well as Hurricane Katrina. He is also known for reporting various tropical cyclones, floods, and winter storms.

Mike Bettes and the EF5 El Reno Tornado

In 2013, Bettes became part of the news headlines when he and his crew, plus other storm chasers, were struck by the EF5 tornado, in El Reno, Oklahoma. His team’s SUV was rolled and tossed over 200 yards into a field, causing the roof to collapse and inflicting minor injuries to himself and other members of his team. Unfortunately, other storm chasers in the scene didn’t do so well and were killed on site – the team of TWISTEX that included Tim Samaras, his son Paul, and colleague Carl Young died after being hit by the tornado. A local resident by the name of Richard Charles Henderson was also killed, after taking a photo of the tornado and then being struck by the storm.

Mike Bettes Personal Life

Before marrying to Chinchar, Bettes was previously married to Stephanie Abrams, also a meteorologist from NBC. Their marriage ended in divorce.
