Damian Lewis will receive a CBE in the Queen‘s Birthday Honours for his charity work, according to reports.

The actor, who in 2014 was appointed an OBE for services to drama, is set to be awarded his latest gong next week.

The 51-year-old, whose wife, actress Helen McCrory died of cancer last year, has carried out work for several charities over the years.

A friend told The Sun: ‘This is richly deserved for all the work Damian has done for so many people with so much done with little or no public fanfare.’

MailOnline has contacted representatives for Buckingham Palace for comment.

In 2010, the award-winning actor, whose credits include Band of Brothers, Homeland and Wolf Hall, became a trade justice ambassador for the charity Christian Aid.

Damian has also coincided his charity work with sport, playing for England in Soccer Aid and for Europe in golf’s All-Star Cup.

More recently, during the Covid-19 pandemic, Lewis and Peaky Blinders’ star Helen turned their support to Feed NHS – a fundraiser which gives food from high street restaurants to NHS workers.

By April 2020, their efforts had raised £1million for the charity, with 40,000 meals a day provided to 100 hospitals.

The initiative started in London but its stark success triggered plans to roll it out to other UK cities.

Last weekend, those who worked with Helen shrugged off the rain to turn up in their droves to celebrate her life at a ‘beautiful’ memorial service.

Helena Bonham Carter, Ralph Fiennes, and Keeley Hawes were among those who packed out St Paul’s Church in London’s Covent Garden, a year after Helen’s death from breast cancer, aged 52.

Damian was pictured arriving with their children, daughter Manon, 15, who delivered a reading, and son Gulliver, 14, who played the guitar.

A close friend said: ‘It was just the most beautiful memorial. It was very touching. Speechless.’

Helen was known for her roles as the villainous Narcissa Malfoy in the Harry Potter films and as matriarch Aunt Polly in Peaky Blinders, the final series of which paid tribute to her.

Damian, who married Helen in 2007, announced her death in a heartbreaking statement on social media in April last year.

Appointed an OBE in the 2017 New Year Honours for services to drama, Helen was also an award-winning stage actress, working with the National Theatre, the Almeida and the Donmar Warehouse and playing Lady Macbeth at Shakespeare’s Globe.
