Daniel Holmes has sparked a fierce debate about the authenticity of people applying for Married At First Sight.
The controversial groom, who was involved in an affair storyline with Carolina Santos, asked his Instagram followers: ‘Is it a bad thing to apply for MAFS for reasons other than love?’
Some fans took the question as Daniel admitting himself that he may not have been on the show for genuine reasons, despite finding love in the end with Carolina.

‘Lucky you did get love,’ Carolina commented on the post, to which Daniel responded ‘agreed’.
The post was flooded with comments from Daniel’s followers, with many sharing their own opinions on whether or not authenticity matters on MAFS.
‘You go on there to make things work with your partner, not cheat on your significant other,’ commented one, while another wrote: ‘Yeah considering the purpose of the show is for love.’
‘Only a genuine few went on there to find love,’ added another, while one wrote that, ‘most of the people that go on this show only do it to get to get on TV and social media’.

Earlier this month, Daniel, 31, and Carolina, 34, claimed to Yahoo! Lifestyle that producers ‘encouraged’ them to spark up a romance and even told them it was the ‘right thing’ to do.
Daniel also alleged producers branded Carolina’s on-screen husband Dion Giannarelli an ‘idiot’ while trying to persuade them to go forward with their romance.
‘They told us like, “You guys are doing the right thing! Jess left! Dion’s an idiot! You are doing the right thing!”,’ he said, referencing his on-screen wife Jessica Seracino who quit days into their marriage.

‘Everything bad you do they’re like, “Oh you’re doing perfect!”. They make you think that you’re doing the right thing.’
Carolina agreed: ‘Yeah, that’s their way to trick you into things. Just whatever feeling you’re having, even if it’s a negative thought, they always validate it like, “Yeah, you’re so right!”.’
Daniel later said he had ‘nothing but respect’ for the producers, and said the ‘villain’ edit the couple received was all worthwhile as they are now happier than ever.
Happy ending: The couple have admitted that they have no problem with their ‘villain edit’ on the series as they were able to find love with each other
