Meet late Sidney Poitier’s six children and how old are they now? Sidney Poitier, the first Black man to win the Best Actor Oscar, has died at the age of 94. He was the youngest of seven children born to Bahamian tomato farmers Evelyn and Reginald James Poitier, but Sidney Poitier had six daughters of his own – four with his first wife Juanita Hardy, and two with his second, Joanna Shimkus. Who are Poitier’s six daughters, and how old are they now?
Sidney Poitier had six children in total, all daughters
Poitier married his first wife, Juanita Hardy, in April 1950. He was 23, having been born in 1927.
They stayed together for 15 years, and raised their family in Stuyesant, New York, in a house on the Hudson River (which is now a “premier hunting outfitter” open to the public).
Sidney Poitier had four daughters with his first wife Juanita Hardy. They are Beverly (born 1952), Pamela (1954), Sherri (1956) and Gina (1961)
With his second wife, Joanna Shimkus, he had two more daughters, Anika (born 1972) and Sydney Tamiia (1973).
Who were Sidney Poitier’s first four daughters?
Pamela, born two years after Beverly, is an actor like her father. She’s also worked in location management and as a production assistant. Her mother Juanita, she once told an audience of children at the New Federal Theatre, “was half Cherokee”.
Sherri Poitier is a chef, according to The Hollywood Reporter, although little else publicly known about Sidney Poitier’s third daughter.
The last of Poitier’s four daughters (with his first wife) is Gina. Per her Northside Chapel obituary, Gina Poitier studied fashion merchandise at the American College for Applied Arts, in Georgia, and opened a designer boutique, Bejai Designs, specialising in fashion for large-sized women.
Born 1961, Gina Patrice Poitier Gouraige died “quickly and unexpectedly” on May 27, 2018, at the age of 57. She was survived by her husband Gaetan, daughters Guylaine and Gabrielle, and son Etienne – as well as her parents, Juanita and Sidney Poitier.
