He may be a king of extreme sports and videogames.

But skateboarder Tony Hawk looked like an ordinary suburban dad on a work trip as he killed time outside his Sydney hotel on Thursday.

The father of four, 54, was seen scrolling through his phone while leaning against a wall as he waited for a friend to exit the lobby.

That night, Tony was the keynote speaker at the Knowledge 2022 festival hosted by U.S. software company ServiceNow at ICC Sydney.

He was interviewed on stage by Channel Nine presenter Sylvia Jeffreys, who later said it was ‘a real buzz’ to speak to the sports legend.

The Today Extra host, 36, posted a photo of the pair on Instagram, and wrote: ‘After sharing a stage with skateboarding icon @tonyhawk this afternoon I can confirm he is even cooler than you think. A deadset legend.

‘Thanks, Tony, for an awesome conversation. It was a real buzz.’

Tony responded in the comments: ‘Thank you for making it so easy!’

After the conference, he went out for dinner with friends at the Italian restaurant Pellegrino 2000 in Surry Hills.

The philanthropist was invited to Knowledge 2022 to discuss ‘the power of reinvention and inspiring positive change in the world’.

Tony, from San Diego, is considered a pioneer of modern vertical skateboarding, and is best known for being the first person to land a 900 trick.

He also made millions by licensing his name to the popular Tony Hawk’s Pro Skater series of videogames published by Activision.

Tony is no stranger to Australian shores, as he has previously made appearances at several skateboarding competitions Down Under.

Sydney’s Bondi Beach was also a playable level in Tony Hawk’s Underground 2, released for PS2, GameCube and Xbox in 2004.
