Rory Hugh Culkin was born in New York City, USA, on 21 July 1989 – his zodiac sign is Cancer, and he holds American nationality. He’s an actor and film producer, with close to 50 acting credits to his name, while he’s perhaps still known best for his portrayal of Morgan Hess, one of the main characters in the hit 2002 mystery science fiction movie “Signs”. It was written and directed by M. Night Shyamalan, starred Mel Gibson and Joaquin Phoenix, and follows a widowed former priest who’s raising his children on a farm in Pennsylvania, and has found strange crop circles in his fields; the movie won three of the 37 awards for which it was nominated.

There are rumors circulating the internet claiming that Rory has retired from acting, however, he’s still quite active in the film industry, and is currently shooting for the upcoming crime mini-series “Under the Banner of Heaven”, and the western movie “A Worthy Man”.

Early life, siblings and education

Rory was raised in New York City alongside his brother Macaulay, a famous actor who’s probably still known best for his starring roles in the first two “Home Alone” movies, and their siblings Shane, Dakota (died aged 29 in 2008), Kieran, Quinn and Christian, by their father Christopher Cornelius ‘Kit’ Culkin who was a stage actor, and their mother Patricia Brentrup who was a road traffic controller. Rory also has a famous aunt: the American actress Bonnie Bedelia Culkin.

Rory was somewhat thrown into the film industry, as his parents began taking him to auditions when he was only three years old; he launched his career aged four, with a role in the hit thriller movie “The Good Son”, which starred his brother Macaulay and Elijah Wood, and follows a young boy who has befriended his cousin with behavioral problems; the movie won one of the three awards for which it was nominated.

Rory then went on to act throughout his entire education. He attended Professional Children’s School, and upon matriculating in 2007 didn’t enroll at college, but chose to focus on working his way up in the film industry.

Roles in movies

In 1994, Rory played Young Richie in the family comedy “Richie Rich”, which starred his brother Macaulay, and his following role came six years later, when he portrayed Rudy in the critically acclaimed drama “You Can Count on Me”.

It was written and directed by Kenneth Lonergan, starred Laura Linney, Matthew Broderick and Amy Ryan, and follows a single mother whose life becomes extra complicated after her problematic younger brother comes to visit her; the movie won 30 of the 75 awards for which it was nominated, including two Oscar nominations.

A couple of Rory’s following roles were in the 2001 family comedy “Off Season”, the 2002 comedy drama “Igby Goes Down” and the 2003 romantic comedy drama “It Runs in the Family”. He played the lead character Sam Merrick in the 2004 crime drama “Mean Creek”, written and directed by Jacob Estes, and which also starred Ryan Kelley and Scott Mechlowicz. The movie follows a teenager who’s being bullied at school, while his friends have now lured the bully into the woods for revenge; it won four of the 10 awards for which it was nominated.

The remainder of the 2000s saw Rory appear in several hit movies, including the 2005 comedy drama “The Schumscrubber”, the 2006 crime horror “The Night Listener”, and the 2008 romantic comedy drama “Lymelife”.

Rory starred as Dan Cooper in the 2015 horror thriller “Intruders”, directed by Adam Schindler, and which also starred Leticia Jimenez and Jack Kesy. It follows a woman who’s suffering from agoraphobia, and three criminals who have broken into her home; the film was nominated for three awards.

Three of Rory’s most recent movie roles have been in theromantic musical drama “The Song of Sway Lake” and the biographical horror drama “Lords of Chaos” both in 2018, and the 2020 drama “Materna”.

As he was then mostly focused on appearing in movies, Rory’s following role in a TV series didn’t come until 15 years later, when he portrayed David Thibodeau in all the six episodes of the 2018 historical crime mini-series “Waco”. It was created by Drew Dowdle and John Erick Dowdle, starred Michael Shannon and Taylor Kitsch, and follows the FBI and ATF who have turned against the religious leader David Koresh; the mini-series was nominated for eight awards, including three Primetime Emmys.

Rory has since appeared in six TV series, most recently in the 2020 episode “13 Steps to Hell (Washington)” of the short horror drama “50 States of Fright”, nine episodes of the horror “The Expecting” in 2020, and the 2021 episode “Becoming Halston” of the biographical mini-series “Halston”.

Love life and wife

Rory prefers to keep the details of his love life to himself, but has still allowed his fans to have a glimpse into it. Rory exchanged vows with the American cinematographer Sarah Scrivener on 8 April 2018, in a private ceremony in New Orleans, Louisiana, attended by only the closest of their friends and family members; the American performer Paul Heyman, who’s currently signed to World Wrestling Entertainment (WWE), officiated the wedding.

Sarah has worked as a second assistant camerawoman on more than 10 movies and TV series, while she’s probably known best for having worked on the crime thriller series “City on a Hill”, which has been airing since 2019, and has won one of the three awards for which it’s been nominated.

Rory and Sarah don’t have children together, and while this is believed to be because they both want to focus on their careers, some of Rory’s fans have claimed that perhaps one of the two is infertile; neither Sarah nor Rory have addressed these rumors.

As of March 2022, Rory’s married to Sarah Scrivener, and they don’t have children together.
