Alec Langen’s recent wedding delight was cut short by a fatal helicopter crash, which killed him at the age of 23. 

The Marine Corps learned that five of its own had died in a helicopter crash in Southern California.

Lance Cpl. Donovan Davis, age 21, Sgt. Alec Langen, age 23, Capt. Benjamin Moulton, age 27, Capt. Jack Casey, age 26, and Capt. Miguel Nava, age 28, was among the brave individuals who died in the tragedy.

Their CH-53E Super Stallion chopper crashed during a routine training flight in a hilly terrain east of San Diego.

The tragic incident occurred while they were traveling from Creech Air Force Base, Nevada, to Marine Corps Air Station Miramar, California.

They crashed approximately 80 miles from their intended location. Lance Cpl. Donovan Davis and Sgt. Alec Langen acted as crew chief, and the three officers were pilots.

In the aftermath, the Marine Corps swiftly notified the families of those killed. During the retrieval procedures, which took place despite severe weather, fellow Marines stood watch over their corpses.
