Their CH-53E Super Stallion chopper crashed during a routine training flight in a hilly terrain east of San Diego.

They crashed approximately 80 miles from their intended location. Lance Cpl. Donovan Davis and Sgt. Alec Langen acted as crew chief, and the three officers were pilots.
