Scheana Shay’s enthusiasm for performing has been evident throughout the years, but her husband, Brock Davies, mentioned that she started to doubt her passion following a singing appearance on television.

The father from Vanderpump Rules revealed this while on Tom Schwartz’s Detox/Retox podcast. He was asked for an update on Scheana’s music journey.

Brock Davies confirms Scheana Shay has recorded new music

“Scheana is definitely working on new music and currently has four tracks ready,” he stated, then addressed her brief stint on a singing competition. “Yes, but she experienced stage fright… The Masked Singer was challenging for her. She really liked it and didn’t want to leave after the first day. She was eliminated.”

Brock said the experience took a toll on Scheana’s confidence and caused her to “second-guess” her talent. But in true Brock fashion, he refused to let his wife accept defeat and encouraged her to return to their in-home recording studio.

“I was like, ‘Come on, honey, let’s get this confidence back. Let’s get these tracks going. Let’s get to making music,’” he recalled. “She does music because she’s an entertainer. Let’s be real on that one. She likes to entertain people. She wants to be on stage and have fun with them. So she takes that and runs with it.”

Tom agreed.

“Truly, honestly, ‘Good as Gold’ still slaps,” he said, referring to Scheana’s 2013 single. “It’s an iconic song. Scheana is iconic. She really is. She’s tried and tested.”

Why Scheana Shay was hesitant to join a singing reality competition

Scheana appeared on The Masked Singer Season 13, Episode 4, and was the first to be eliminated from her group. She spoke about the competition series in a March interview with People magazine, explaining why she was initially hesitant to do the show.

“I didn’t want to come on at all, if I’m being honest,” she said. “When I got the call, I was like, ‘Nope, nope, absolutely not. I am not doing that.’ After being on Vanderpump Rules and people making fun of me for doing music when I’m like, I’ve never wanted to be a pop star. It was just always something as a fun side hobby. I love performing, I love making music, I love doing all of this, but it’s never been priority No. 1.”

Scheana said her concern was the public’s reaction and being dismissed as a joke.

“I just didn’t want another thing to be made fun of for singing on national television. It took some convincing from my team, she said. “But it was such an incredible experience, and I’m glad I got that push that I needed because I would’ve missed out on an incredible opportunity. That is something that I want my daughter [Summer Moon Honey Davies] to grow up and do, to not be afraid of the unknown and to take chances.”

Scheana is now preparing to release her first memoir, My Good Side. Get more details about the book before it hits shelves on July 22.
