Cartoon: Who Is Michael Leunig Wife Helga Salwe? Michael Leunig had a lovely wife, whom he divorced after their marriage failed.

Michael, also known as Leunig, is an Australian cartoonist (his signature on his cartoons).

Among his works are the cartoon books The Essential Leunig, The Wayward Leunig, The Stick, Goatperson, Short Notes from the Long History of Happiness, and Curly Verse.

When I Talk To You, by Leunig, is a collection of prayers. In 1999, the National Trust of Australia designated him as an Australian Living Treasure.

Leunig’s drawings are done in a sparse, trembling line, usually in black and white with ink wash, with enlarged noses for the human characters.

Michael Leunig married Helga Salwe for the second time in 1992; however, the couple divorced in the 2010s.

Previously, the cartoonist was wedded to Pamela Munro, which ended in divorce.

Kasimir Burgess’ film documentary ‘The Leunig Fragments,’ about his life, was released in 2020 and illustrated many of Leunig’s issues with familial relationships.

Furthermore, Michael has four children, and they were all born on notable dates. Gus on November 5, 1974, Sunny on February 14, 1980, Minna on Australia Day, 1992, and Felix on Christmas Day, 1994. His children were all educated at home.

Michael Leunig Net Worth: How Much Does He Make?

Michael Leunig is estimated to have a $5 million to $10 million.

He must have acquired a sizable fortune during his five-decade career as a cartoonist.

Following the rejection of a cartoon he had drawn in response to COVID-19 vaccination restrictions in Australia, Leunig’s cartoon contributions for the editorial page in the Monday edition of The Age newspaper in Melbourne ended in September 2021.

The Tank Man in Tiananmen Square was contrasted to vaccine resistance in the animation. He continues to contribute cartoons to The Age and The Sydney Morning Herald on Saturdays.

Leunig has regularly placed his own handwritten poetry in his cartoons since the beginning of his career; he has also released books of poetry. He has been quite frank about his subjects in conversations about his art.

In a personal proclamation against the War on Terror, Leunig has regularly satirized notions of Americanisation, greed, consumerism, corporations, and warmongering.

Even though just a few of Leunig’s paintings are political in origin or reference, he has been dubbed a “political cartoonist”.

    Michael Leunig Family

On June 2, 1945, Michael Leunig was born in East Melbourne and grew up in Footscray, an inner-western suburb, where he attended Footscray North Primary School. He is a fifth-generation Australian.

He then went to Maribyrnong High School; however, he had to first attend classes at the neighboring Royal Melbourne Showgrounds in Ascot Vale while the school was still being built.

Moreover, he did not attend his parents’ funerals and did not correspond with his siblings regularly. Mary Leunig (b. 1950), his sister, is also a talented cartoonist.

Leunig has a studio in Melbourne’s Northcote neighborhood and a home in northeast Victoria.
