Barack Obama gushed over his wife, Michelle Obama, in a sweet Mother’s Day post after she shut down divorce rumors.
“Happy Mother’s Day to all the incredible moms and mother figures!” the former president shared on platform X this Sunday, accompanied by a picture of Michelle with their daughters, Malia, 26, and Sasha, 23.
“@MichelleObama, the girls and I are so lucky to have you in our lives. We love you.”
At 63, Barack posted this touching message amid rumors of a split, as questions arose over Michelle’s absence from several significant political gatherings, such as President Jimmy Carter’s funeral earlier this year.
That same month, the former first lady also skipped President Trump’s second inauguration.
Michelle, 61, defended not going to Trump’s ceremony during an appearance on the “Diary of a CEO” podcast earlier this month.
“People couldn’t believe that I was saying no for any other reason,” she said. “They had to assume that my marriage was falling apart.”
The mom of two explained she was making the right decision for herself after attending Trump’s first inauguration in 2017.
“I had to muster all my strength to resist doing what was expected and instead choose what was truly right for me,” she added. “It was a tough decision for me.”
Elsewhere in the episode, Michelle claimed that she and Barack would not throw in the towel on their decades-long relationship.
“That’s not who we are,” she said. “And I know that about him. He knows that about me.”
During another conversation on the “Work in Progress” podcast with Sophia Bush, Michelle elaborated on saying “no” to attending political events.
“The interesting thing is that when I say ‘no,’ for the most part, people are like, ‘I get it,’” she said. “And that’s the thing that we as women struggle with — disappointing people.
“So much so that people, they couldn’t even fathom that I was making a choice for myself, that they had to assume that my husband and I are divorcing.”
Michelle and Barack tied the knot in October 1992.
