England’s Under 21s are set for more TV blackout on Monday with the FA facing questions over how to generate broadcast interest in the European champions.

Lee Carsley’s side face Ukraine for a qualifier in Slovakia but supporters are unlikely to have the opportunity to follow their progress unless a live YouTube stream can be hastily organised.

The success of last summer’s run to European glory – England didn’t concede a goal in lifting the trophy for the first time in 37 years – was only available online until Channel 4 showed the dramatic final against Spain.

‘We can only keep doing what we are doing,’ Carsley said. ‘We have the FA YouTube channel which has gone down quite well. Hopefully we can continue with that.’

England are without Cole Palmer, who has returned to Chelsea with a dead leg sustained during the 9-1 victory over Serbia at the City Ground on Thursday night. Carsley believes victory against Ukraine will set his new squad up to reach another finals.

‘It’s been a tough window this one,’ he added. ‘In hindsight the scoreline was good but Serbia are still a good team, they’ll be very difficult over there next month. We’ve seen this as a window where we need to be fully engaged and ready for.’
