We all could use some tummy time.
Kelly Ripa admitted on Friday’s Live with Kelly and Mark that she did “something that I caution everyone in this audience all the time not to do.”
“Last night, I fell asleep in bed while watching Netflix on my computer,” she recounted. “Have you ever just slept in a weird position? I did, and now every time Mark [Consuelos] tries to touch me, it flares up again.”
Consuelos assured Ripa that “it’s going to unlock” soon, and offered up another potential solution.
“Remember when the kids were little, and the pediatrician would always recommend giving them plenty of tummy time?” he asked Ripa. “It was great for helping them strengthen their neck muscles.”
Ripa quipped, “Is that wrong now? Did we ruin their lives?”
Apparently, “adult tummy time is a real concept,” as Consuelos explained, having read that “because we tend to hunch over” our gadgets, “some beneficial exercises” can aid in maintaining proper posture.
Ripa insisted, “I do do that.”
Consuelos replied, “But do more of it.”
Rolling her eyes, Ripa teased, “This man.”
Consuelos continued reading that “some research estimates that 73% of university students” and “nearly 65% of people who work from home or have neck pain with laptops and cellphones as top contributors to this issue.”
Ripa chimed in, “I fell asleep once watching Netflix. I need tummy time from one time watching Netflix?”
As Consuelos read, “it’s being used to help reverse forehead and rounded shoulders posture, [and] to address upper-back tightness.”
“When doing tummy time, some people might casually lie on their stomachs, while others may treat it more as a pose like yoga or pilates,” he added. “Like the sphinx, the cobra, the swan, swimming.”
After Ripa and Consuelos asked Live EP Michael Gelman what the Swan pose looks like â and he would later perform it on the air â Consuelos insisted with a slight smirk that Ripa “need[s] some tummy time today.” And Ripa knew the best way to close out of the segment.
“Don’t get any ideas,” she slyly teased while shaking her head.
