Jurgen Klopp was left fuming at the atmosphere inside Anfield during Wednesday’s Premier League clash against Luton and gestured at supporters to improve the noise levels.

Liverpool were behind at half time after Chiedozie Ogbene gave the visitors a surprise lead in the 12th minute and Klopp let the home crowd know he wasn’t happy with their contribution.

The 56-year-old is leaving Liverpool at the end of the season after citing he doesn’t have the energy to continue giving maximum effort to the cause following nine successful years at the club.

Liverpool were searching for a crucial victory to extend their lead over second-place Manchester City to four points and murmurs of discontent were heard around the stadium after the Reds conceded.

Liverpool had missed chances to put themselves back on level terms with Luis Diaz and Joe Gomez missing the most clear-cut efforts in front of goal.

One particular misplaced pass from 20-year-old Harvey Elliott resulted in groans being heard amongst members of the home support.

Klopp was furious with the negativity being heard from behind his dugout and turned to shocked fans who received a blasting from the German.

An animated Reds boss threw his arms up in the air in the direction of Liverpool fans while travelling Luton supporters ironically chanted ‘is this a library.’

Luton manager Rob Edwards also clashed with Klopp in the technical area next to the pitch as the pair verbally scrapped about time-wasting on approach to half time.

The feelings of fury appeared to echo onto Klopp’s backroom staff when goalkeeper coach John Achterberg was shown a yellow card for protesting a decision.

Klopp previously clashed with Liverpool fans following a midweek Carabao Cup victory over West Ham earlier in the season. The Reds will play in the competition’s final against Chelsea on Sunday.

He claimed at the time that he wasn’t happy with the atmosphere inside Anfield and told fans not able to help improve the vocal support inside the ground to give their ticket away.

‘I was not overly happy with the atmosphere behind me,’ he said in December. ‘I was like, “What do you want?”. We changed the team a lot and we dominated West Ham. If I had been in the crowd I would have been on my toes.

‘Was everyone down because we didn’t smash Manchester United? On Saturday (against Arsenal), we need Anfield to be on its toes from the first second. Without waiting for me to have an argument with the opposition coach or whatever.

‘We need you. If it’s too much football in December, sorry, if you’re not in the right shape give your ticket to somebody else.’
