Washington Capitals defenseman Jakob Chychrun has revealed he has sold the Tesla he owned because he was worried the impact of ‘sitting on a battery all day’.
The 26-year-old Chychrun made the surprising revelation on a radio interview on 106.7 The Fan’s Grant & Danny, a Washington sports show, after signing a new eight-year contract with the Capitals worth $72million.
‘It’s definitely been a very exciting and happy last few days for myself and my family,’ he said. ‘We actually bought a new car a few weeks ago.
‘We had a Tesla for a while that we’ve wanted to get rid of. We’re pretty big — as you guys know, we talk about our health and wellness a lot — we just had a weird feeling about sitting on a battery all day in the car, so we wanted to get rid of the Tesla, move on from the electric.
‘And I got my my wife her dream car which was a G-Wagon. My wife and I are just big into living a clean, healthy life.
‘We try to do a good job of not overspending. We’re just pretty simple and and homey people, and we don’t like to go crazy with our spending. We definitely have our months, but we try to do a good job.’

Washington Capitals star Jakob Chychrun has opened up on why he has sold his Tesla

Chychrun has made no secret of his interest in health and follows an ‘ancestral diet’
Chychrun’s comments come a difficult time for Telsa on the stock market. Prices have fallen amid founder Elon Musk’s involvement with Donald Trump and his administration.
Under Trump, Musk heads up the Department of Government Efficiency after donating millions to his campaign when he was on the election trail.
Tesla’s batteries are considered to be safe, however. They are made from lithium-ion which are non-toxic and used in a lot of electrical accessories.
Chychrun, meanwhile, has made no secrets of his unorthodox methods when it comes to living a healthy life.
He told Grant and Danny: ‘We like to turn the lights off in the house and do no artificial light and just light some candles. It’s been really nice, I’ve been sleeping like a baby when I do that.’
He also eats what he calls an ‘ancestral diet’ that includes raw milk and animal organs.
‘The heart actually surprisingly tastes pretty good, just tastes like meat, just a raw muscle meat, like a tartar,’ Chychrun told The Hockey News in 2024. ‘The liver is terrible.
‘I make ice cream all the time. I do raw dairy, raw cream, raw milk, I put in six egg yolks, I put in dates, I’ll put in whatever flavor I want to do, lemon olive oil, honey flavor.

It has been a volatile lately for Elon Musk with Tesla having a rocky time in the stock market

Chychrun, meanwhile, recently signed a new eight-year, $72m contract with the Capitals
‘You can do all these different flavors of ice creams that are super healthy, very nutrient-dense, no sugar at all other than the dates and maybe a little bit of maple syrup or raw honey.
‘It’s so nutrient-dense and you can eat it pretty much every night if you want. I think it’s a very healthy alternative to Ben and Jerry’s, which just has a million ingredients and carcinogens and loads of white table sugars.’
Chychrun’s teammate, Alexander Ovechkin, is closing in on Wayne Gretzky’s record of 894 NHL goals.
After scoring in the team’s 3-2 loss to the Winnipeg Jets, his tally currently stands at 889.
The Capitals are next in action on Sunday night, against the Buffalo Sabres.
