Jaxon Smith-Njigba has had an extraordinary few months. On February 5, he was honored with the Associated Press Offensive Player of the Year Award. Just three days following that accolade, he celebrated a Super Bowl victory as the Seattle Seahawks triumphed over the New England Patriots, 29-13, in Super Bowl LX. Now, Smith-Njigba has signed a groundbreaking contract, becoming the highest-paid wide receiver in NFL history.

Smith-Njigba has inked a four-year deal with the Seahawks, valued at an impressive $168.6 million. This agreement includes an unprecedented $120 million in guaranteed money and an average yearly salary of $42.15 million—both figures setting new records for a wide receiver in the league.

In the wake of the Seahawks parting ways with DK Metcalf, Smith-Njigba emerged as a standout star. He topped the league with 1,793 receiving yards on 119 catches, forming an outstanding partnership with quarterback Sam Darnold. At just 24 years old, Smith-Njigba is poised for many more years of high-level performance.

With this new contract, the Seahawks have secured Smith-Njigba’s talents through the 2031 season. This offseason, the team also exercised his fifth-year option, valued at $23.9 million. Although he has only three years of NFL experience, this latest deal will take effect starting with the 2028 season.

During the upcoming season, Smith-Njigba’s base salary will be a modest $1.25 million, especially given his stellar performance. However, he will also receive a substantial $35 million signing bonus, and there’s an opportunity to earn an additional $250,000 through workout incentives.

With this extension, Smith-Njigba has overtaken Ja’Marr Chase in terms of average annual value. Chase’s contract with the Cincinnati Bengals stands at $40.25 million per year.

Smith-Njigba earned All-Pro honors this year. He finished with career-highs in receptions, yards, and touchdown receptions, racking up 10 scores during the regular season. In Seattle’s three playoff games, he grabbed 17 catches for 199 yards, scoring twice.

Over his career, Smith-Njigba has 282 receptions, 3,551 receiving yards, and 20 touchdowns. He was also named to the Pro Bowl in 2024 and 2025—an honor he’ll likely receive several more times if he keeps up his consistent play.

Though he was on the sidelines for part of the Super Bowl while being evaluated for a concussion, Smith-Njigba has had picture-perfect health on the field. He hasn’t missed a game in three seasons. That longevity is another big draw for Seattle.

Smith-Njigba was born on Valentine’s Day, which also happens to be the date of next year’s Super Bowl. If he and the Seahawks continue their run, Smith-Njigba might just have two big milestones to celebrate.
