Kyle DeFreytag is the fourth officer to take his own life following the riot of January.  

Kyle was one of the officers that day that helped enforce the curfew despite hundreds of Trump supporters breached the Capitol building to disrupt the certification of the 2020 election results.

He is the fourth DC police officer confirmed to have committed suicide after the deadly riot of January. Kyle’s death news came just hours after the news of the death of Officer Gunther Hashida.

Officer Hashida was also one of the police officers enforced during the riot. His relatives set up a gofundme and have raised more than $71,000 for his family. Two officers, Jeffrey Smith, and Howard Liebengood died by suicide just days after the riot.

 Kyle was a native of Pennsylvania and had been an MPD officer for five years. He was deployed to protect the Capitol after police cleared the building of rioters. He was also involved in enforcing a curfew.

The reason for Kyle DeFreytag’s suicide has not been revealed. Kyle’s family has not said his death was caused by the result of the riot.
